There was a time when Motorola used to provide OS updates faster than Google (the KitKat update for Verizon Moto X for example). OnePlus recreated a similar scenario as they started to push August security patch to OnePlus 7 Pro before the Google Pixel lineup!
Nevertheless, keeping the entire product portfolio up-to-date is considered as a godsend in the domain of Android. The de-facto rule is to opt for Google phones if you want to receive regular OTAs.
Here comes Realme! Despite being a rather new OEM, they managed to release July update to plenty of their phones, such as Realme 3 Pro, Realme 3, Realme 2 Pro as well as Realme 1.
While the Chinese OEM is busy preparing the mysterious ‘Project X‘, they did provide a set of bugfix updates to Realme C2 and Realme U1. In fact, the latest OTA spree was started with Realme C2, but the owners are stuck with age-old May 2019 patch.
Not anymore! The Helio P22 powered Realme C2 is now getting a new update (RMX1945EX_11_A.14) which bumps the security patch level all the way to July.
We are not sure whether the previous bugfix OTA has reached to all Realme C2 owners or not. In that case, there should be two different incremental updates. No need to get confused though – just verify the version number and patch level after installing.
On the other hand, the Helio P70 equipped Realme U1 also becomes the part of the July update roster. The company is gradually distributing the RMX1831EX_11_A.13 build as the new OTA to random Realme U1 units.
In both cases, the size of the incremental OTA package is less than 200 MB. It could be possible that the company did a pilot testing of the changes using the older builds. After the satisfactory results, they integrated the July patches and called for a wider rollout.
Realme U1 also gets the lock screen magazine feature in this update. Phones like Realme 1 already received the functionality in their initial Android Pie based ColorOS 6 update.
As always, the new builds are being pushed in a staged manner. The updates should hit your phones in coming days.
