With each Android iteration, Google comes up with new ways to improve the timely uptake of the OS. The search giant continues to allow more non-Google phones early access to the beta software to speed up the development and eventual rollout and it’s beginning to work to some extent.
Last year, the Google Pixels were joined by the Essential Phone in receiving the update on the very day the stable version went live. This year, Google and Essential have been joined by Xiaomi’s Redmi K20 Pro in receiving the update to Android 10 on the first day of availability.
One reason for the early availability of stable Android 10 on the Redmi K20 Pro is the early access to Android Q beta that Xiaomi had since May 2019. The company first enrolled the Mi MIX 3 5G and Mi 9 into the program before adding the Redmi K20 Pro following its launch in late May.
At the time of joining the beta program, the Redmi K20 Pro found the Realme 3 Pro in the program. The device was among 15 non-Google phones that joined Android Q beta right after the Google I/O 2019 event and honestly, this got owners of the device flying above the rest.
Unfortunately, little did they know this was going to be the one and only Android Q beta update this device ever gets. Since May, the Realme 3 Pro is still stuck on the Q beta 3.
In a weekly FAQ hosted on the Realme community, the Oppo subsidiary has revealed that Realme 3 Pro will not receive any other Android 10 beta other than what users already have installed.
Q. Why is there no Android 10 beta update for realme 3 pro (stuck on beta 3 out of 5)?
A. There will not be more updates. If users wish to exit, they can take the following steps.
The company further directs that if anyone isn’t happy about this decision, they should feel free to downgrade to the stable Android 9 Pie, probably as they wait for Realme to release the stable version of Android 10 for their Realme 3 Pro units.
1. Download the ROM rollback package (Q2P.zip) from the link below.
2. Copy ROM rollback package (Q2P.zip) to mobile phone storage.
3. Press the power button and choose to shut down.
4. Press and hold the power button + volume down to enter recovery mode.
5. Select Apply update from storage device -> Q2P.zip to rollback.
6. Wait system upgrade to reach to 100% (about 3 mins) and then select Reboot.
7. You have successfully rolled back to Android P!
Below is the Q2P.zip file download link.
- Device: Realme 3 Pro
- Channel: Global Stable
- Android: 9.0
- Type: Recovery
- Download: Link
- Type: Recovery
It’s worth noting that ending Android Q beta for Realme 3 Pro doesn’t mean the device won’t receive Android 10 stable. In fact, the company has potentially hinted at the possible release of Android 10 to all Realme phones with features like dark mode and new gestures already confirmed.
We will keep an eye on this development and update this post if and when we come across new info regarding Realme 3 Pro Android 10 software update.
