Offering ‘Pro’ level of features under a tight budget may sound little complicated, but Realme did cross the hurdle with 2018’s Realme 2 Pro. The relatively new OEM offered a package with a capable Snapdragon 660 SoC, dual (16+2 MP) rear camera setup and a hefty 3,500 mAh battery.
With Realme 2 Pro, the company opened up the door to aftermarket development by allowing end users to unlock the bootloader of the device – a program which was further expanded later. They also offered Android Pie based ColorOS 6 update on top of the factory installed ColorOS 5.2 (Oreo).
The Chinese OEM recently announced the tentative timeline of their Android 10 rollout plan, and Realme 2 Pro did secure a place in the roster. If everything goes fine, the phone should get the update (probably with Realme OS flavor) by Q3 of the next year.
However, the current stable channel of ColorOS update is kinda messy for this particular phone. According to the official support, they pushed the August security patch in the form of C.23 update. But user reports indicated that the build never reached to a broader audience.
The situation took a sudden twist, when the company shared the full update package of software version C.24 in their download portal. The changelog did mention August security patches, but they actually bundled September patchset with this build. Oh, and there was no sign of standard OTA.
Well, there’s more! A bunch of Realme 2 Pro owners have reportedly received the mysterious C.23 update via OTA since yesterday. Contrary to the previous claim, it does not include August security patches.
The size of the incremental OTA is quite large (~600 MB), but the changelog is quite insignificant. Apparently Realme engineers included some kind of ‘Wi-Fi security patch’ (delayed action against QualPwn?) in this build.
Some Realme 2 owners also got a prompt to install the C.24 update after installing the C.23 OTA via another consecutive download of ~650 MB (size may vary). We are not sure why Realme bothered to split the package in two halves rather than pushing on cumulative update.
If you want to skip the convoluted OTA mechanism, please download the full C.24 package from the following link and flash manually. Being a cumulative package, it can be installed on any Realme 2 Pro running ColorOS 6.
