New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on November 29, 2019) follows:
The Pocophone F1, simply known as Poco F1 in India, arrived over a year ago to a great reception owing to its impressive value proposition compared to the competition. But we all know there is more to smartphones than just good hardware.
To be fair, POCO by Xiaomi has done a pretty commendable job with Pocophone F1 software updates. The device was unveiled running MIUI 9 based on Android 8.1 Oreo and later switched to MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie.
Naturally, fans have been looking forward to the release of the Poco F1 Android 10 update, especially now that multiple Xiaomi devices have already received the stable version. The device has already picked up its MIUI 11 stable update, but still based on Pie.
With no Android 10 activity in the Poco camp despite fellow Snapdragon 845-powered smartphones like Xiaomi Mi 8, Mi MIX 2S and even Samsungs Galaxy S9 and Note 9 having already received the new OS in beta, concerned fans were always going to start asking questions.
Heck, we even have a working MiRoom port for the Poco F1 based on Android 10, something that has led to questions like the one below directed to the head of POCOPHONE Global, Alvin Tse, on Twitter.
Hey Alvin asus zenfone 5z already got android 10..what about POCO F1? When will we get the android 10 update?
In response, Tse says the company is already ‘working on it” but with no beta firmware out in the wild, it remains to be seen how soon the Poco F1 Android 10 update stable version will be released.
The Pocophone F1 Android 10 update will be the second and last major OS upgrade for the device, at least officially. The fact that POCO by Xiaomi only has one device to maintain yet it is underperforming makes one wonder what will be the case if and when the Poco F2 arrives.
There have been some talks about the potential release of the Pocophone F2, but it remains to be mere talk at the moment. We saw an alleged Poco F2 Spigen case that seemed to add more weight to the phone’s case, but nothing has materialized so far.
We will keep an eye on both stories and let you know in case of new developments. Meanwhile, stay tuned to our Xiaomi/Poco and Android 10 sections for more related stories.
