It goes without saying that updates often catch more lime light for breaking functionalities than offering new features. This time it stands true for OnePlus phones, as the OxygenOS 5.0.1 update has brought along new connectivity troubles. Lets take up the problems one by one:

Bluetooth glitch on OnePlus5

Bluetooth is playing its notorious connection-disconnection game, this time with OnePlus5 and OnePlus3/3T devices. After upgrading their units to 5.0.1, OP device holders have been complaining of constant Bluetooth connection drops while playing music through phone on the car’s head unit.

One of the complainant says:

Bluetooth constantly stops and restarts when connected to my car’s bluetooth audio system. It will connect to bluetooth but once I start to use something with audio, the “Bluetooth has stopped” message comes up and wants me to close the app. Bluetooth then restarts, audio plays for 1-2 seconds, and then it crashes again. This only happens when connected to my car’s bluetooth – I can still connect fine with my bluetooth headphones and bluetooth receiver at home

Basically, while playing music though car’s head unit, Bluetooth connects, audio plays for some fractions and then it disconnects, throwing an error stating “Bluetooth has stopped“, further suggesting to close the app.

Then there are some users who say they observe frequent Bluetooth connect-disconnects while their device isn’t streaming music.

The problem is being widely reported by OnePlus 5 users, but some OP3 users have also been facing these kind of problems after upgrading to 5.0, and it continues to persist even after 5.0.1.

WiFi roaming issue on OnePlus 3/3T

Apart from Bluetooth, OP3/3T owners are also putting across WiFi roaming problem, where-in their phone is not switching automatically to the nearest WiFi access point, when in a mesh network. Basically, the device stays on the earlier access point, and fails to switch to the stronger/closest access point, unless Wi-Fi is first disabled and then re-enabled.

While the company hasn’t said anything officially yet regarding both Bluetooth and WiFi roaming issues, we hope they address the matters sooner than later. We are keeping a close eye on all related developments, and will update as and when they occur.

Meanwhile, following are a couple of user-suggested workarounds to temporarily fix the Bluetooth connection drops:
