Oppo Reno ColorOS 7.1 (Android 10) beta update goes live, images suggest

OPPO announced its new custom UI for its mobile Android 10 OS dubbed ColorOS 7 in November 2019. Soon after, an official roadmap for both the Chinese and global markets was confirmed, placing the availability of the Reno Android 10 update the following month.

The company went ahead and released the beta version of this software to several devices in China, among them the standard Reno, Reno Ace, Reno 10x Zoom Edition, Find X, R17, and Reno2, among others.

The same Android 10-based update has also found its way to a few OPPO handsets in India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Australia, among other global markets, with devices like the Find X, R17, and the F11 series among the recipients.

Ahead of the stable rollout later this month, stories of the newer ColorOS 7.1 are already doing rounds on the interwebs, this time with respect to the OPPO Reno.

It’s not the first time we are coming across ColorOS 7.1. Matter of fact, the Bluetooth SIG recently cleared devices alleged to be the OPPO Find X2 series running ColorOS 7.1, so yeah, this version of the company’s custom skin does exist.

However, there is no official word on when we can expect ColorOS 7.1 update on other Android 10-based devices, but according to reports from China (via OPPO community forums), the Reno ColorOS 7.1 update is already rolling out.

The update is reportedly in beta, but it’s unclear if Reno owners have to sign up for the update or whether it is rolling out to those in the current ColorOS 7 beta program.

The changelog attached to the update is in Chinese, but we can still gather that it brings improvements to DND mode, Settings, notification management, and more.

Since it’s a small update from ColorOS 7.0 to 7.1, do not expect any changes to the base OS. This also suggests that this particular ColorOS 7.1 firmware may only arrive as an OTA update to devices that already have ColorOS 7.0 installed.

OPPO will reportedly announce the Find X2 series this week (March 6) and it is then that we’ll get our first idea of what ColorOS 7.1 brings over ColorOS 7.0.
