OnePlus is no stranger in hosting AMA (Ask Me Anything) sessions, which is just another fancy way to organizing an interview with a large number of netizens. As a matter of fact, the company kickstarted their journey and built the initial fanbase with a number of reddit AMAs.
Our launch date for our first product, the OnePlus One is approaching (Q2 is around the corner!) and we will try to reply to all the questions you make us regarding the company, life in a startup, living in China, our dog (yes, we adopted a Shiba Inu puppy!), our product philosophy and, of course, questions about our new smartphone -although we might not be able to disclose some information on our product… yet!-.

When OnePlus broke up with Cyanogen Inc. and hired most of the Paranoid Android team to form their in-house OxygenOS, they organized another reddit AMA to discuss the tentative roadmap of their journey.
Fast forward to 2019 and the seventh (considering OnePlus X) generation of OnePlus phones are here. The team decided to set up yet another round of AMA to answer the truckload of questions from the community about their newest products.
This time, the platform was shifted from reddit to the official OnePlus forums. The following OnePlus members participated in the AMA:

The lack of a proper IP rating is perhaps the most controversial topic around the OnePlus 7 series. When queried about the ‘bucket challenge‘, Vito continued their defensive stance:
The OnePlus 7 Pro support daily splash-proof, including when the camera is popped up. There is a testing video on YouTube as far as I can remember.
However please keen in mind that our warranty, like everyone elses, does not cover water damage.

We are not sure about which ‘testing’ video Vito was referring, but it could be the one conducted by Matthew Moniz.
The OnePlus community is now accustomed with the absence of the 3.5 mm headphone jack, but early adopters of OnePlus 7 Pro are not happy about the unavailability of the OnePlus Type-C to 3.5 mm adapter.
Once again, Vito’s answer proved the sheer marketing tactics of the Chinese OEM to push their Bullets Wireless range of audio products.
We believe the type-c port gadgets and wireless audio products are quite popular.

However, the OnePlus 7 series does support industry standard DisplayPort output so that users can connect the phone with a larger display via Type-C to HDMI/DP converter.
People are thrilled to experience the dual-curved screen in the OnePlus 7 Pro. To answer the questions about this particular design choice, Vito posted the following:
From the perspective of industrial design, the front side and back side are symmetrical, the curve screen can also make the body looks much thinner. Beauty lies there.
From the display effect perspective, the flexible screen has a lower reflectance than the hard screen, which can provide better content consuming the experience.
From the structural space dimension perspective, the flexible screen is thinner than the hard screen, which is more conducive to the stacking of the components, and also helps the fingerprint unlocking speed.
We have optimized curve touches. According to the feedback from users in the demo area of the launch event, we are confident about it. Hands on the OnePlus 7 Pro and you will find out the answer by yourself.
Notification support via Edge lighting with variable colors is a much-anticipated feature and the company is aware of that. Future updates might bring these functionalities.

OnePlus 6 and 6T are already eligible for the early beta testing of Android Q, while the OnePlus 7 series are scheduled to be added in the roster. Well, we now have a definite ETA as well.
Manu also hinted that the OnePlus 7 series will be treated according to their software maintenance schedule. It means that both OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro will get 2 years worth of Oxygen OS updates, while there should be closed and open beta channels as well.
FYI, OnePlus is currently rolling out day-one OTA update for the OnePlus 7 Pro.
In yesterday’s daily dose of OnePlus news, we mentioned that new software based features in OxygenOS 9.5 (such as Fnatic/gaming mode, screen recorder, Zen Mode etc.) should eventually come to older OnePlus phones via OTA update.
Manu J. officially confirmed the same, as upcoming Open Beta builds would feature some of them.
Screen recording will be available on 6 /6T and OnePlus 5/5T, watch out for them in an open Beta build soon.

The 5G variant of OnePLus 7 Pro is currently exclusive to UK and Finland, but the company might launch it in the USA in near future.

The regular OnePlus 7 won’t be coming to the US officially, although it supports necessary network bands.
As a matter of interest, the display techs and smoothness tweaks of OnePlus 7 Pro can’t be ported to the regular OnePlus 7 display due to hardware limitations.
The OnePlus 7 Pro has a dedicated display that we worked on for two and a half years. As such, the overall display performance, including color accuracy is different on the 7 Pro from the 7.

The team also cleared the confusions regarding the availability of liquid cooling and WARP charge 30 support in the base variant of OnePlus 7.
Always-on-Display (AoD) and one handed mode are some of the long-awaited features in OxygenOS, which could make their way in future.
