OnePlus ostensibly confirms OnePlus 7T display tint issue in existing & new models

Plenty of rumors have been all over the web regarding the next OnePlus smartphones, tentatively called the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro.

From the look of things, it seems OnePlus is set to pick up from where it left off in 2019. There is talk of wireless charging support on the Pro variant, a switch from 90Hz to 120 Hz display refresh rate, and even up to 12GB RAM. However, they all remain unconfirmed reports.

Not long ago, a report by Counterpoint Research revealed that OnePlus topped the premium smartphone segment in India for the entire 2019 thanks to great devices like the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Although not mentioned, OnePlus 7T was also added to the portfolio towards the end of the year, possibly contributing a certain share to the 28% YoY growth in shipments recorded in 2019.

The device is undoubtedly one of the best on the market right now thanks to the usual value for money it presents buyers with. However, like others before, it’s not perfect, both software- and hardware-wise.

In the latter camp is the display tint issue we reported about last October. Back then, it was claimed the OnePlus 7T display tint issue has nothing to do with the quality of the AMOLED panel used.

Fast-forward to today and no fix for the issue despite a truckload of software updates to the 7T, OnePlus still has the same stance – that the OnePlus 7T display tint issue is to be expected “under specific circumstances of extreme low light” due to the “properties of the AMOLED display.”

Under specific circumstances of extreme low light, a slight display discoloration may occur due to the properties of the AMOLED display. This is not a quality issue and will not affect daily usage or the durability of the screen.

This revelation was made via an email sent to one of the affected device owners, which further implies that the company admits the OnePlus 7T display tint issue indeed exists.

Furthermore, the Chinese company seemingly admits that getting a replacement unit won’t be the end of the OnePlus 7T display tint issue because it exists in both current and new models of the device.

However if you would like to return the product, you can raise a return request in your OnePlus account. Unfortunately we do not have replacement option in this case, since the issue is same in new devices.
