OnePlus News Daily Dose #24: Next gen OnePlus Bullets, T-Mobile OnePlus 6T update, RCS support and more!

This is a busy week so far in terms of leaks and conjectures about the upcoming phone from OnePlus. At this moment, we can almost surely tell that we are getting a regular LTE OnePlus 7 and a 5G capable OnePlus 7.5 (joke’s on me), sometimes in May.

Yesterday’s daily dose was mostly focused on those leaks; an alleged retail listing in particular. Some discrepancies were too obvious to notice, and we jotted down them as well.

You may recall that Pete Lau, i.e. the CEO of OnePlus reacted about these leaks and their authenticity.

Pete is very much active on Sina Weibo, which is the Chinese equivalent of Twitter. He loves to interact with fans via the microblogging platform.

In one of his recent posts in Weibo, Lau has talked about the removal of headphone jack and wireless audio.

Seems that he has been talking about OnePlus Bullets Wireless by “… our cloud ear …” (*cough* broken translation *cough*). The Bullets from OnePlus is indeed a fan favorite accessory for their elegant outlook and sizeable performance.

The next part of the sentence: “… it can be even more extreme …” is particularly interesting though. Is this a hint about the next generation of Bullets?

Perhaps OnePlus is planning to launch a competitor of Apple AirPods or Samsung Galaxy Buds. Well, the headphone jack is not coming back – that’s for sure.

On the other hand, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has decided to open up his Twitter DM for everyone.

Millions of users instantly started to hammer him with bug reports, feature requests, suggestions and complains. Kudos Carl for biting the bullet! ?

Another OnePlus official, David Y., teased about the status of the Android 9 Pie update for OnePlus 3 and 3T yesterday. Worry not padawan, we covered them already.

We have really expected to get a beta build of the Pie update for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T today, but someone else has managed to get greater priority.

It’s the T-Mobile exclusive OnePlus 6T.

In one of our previous articles, we discussed the issues of delayed updates and artificial limitations of the carrier branded variant of OnePlus 6T.

Popular community project Oxygen Updater decided to drop the support for T-Mobile OnePlus 6T for these reasons.

Anyway, the carrier branded phone is now getting a new update (A6013_34_190217) which brings native Video over LTE (ViLTE) and RCS support.

In case you’re curious, that ‘IR94’ thingy is the technical name of ViLTE.

IR.94 is the definition of an IMS profile by listing a number of Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN), Evolved Packet Core, IMS core, and UE features which are considered essential to launch interoperable IMS based conversational video services.

The stock OnePlus messaging app is updated with RCS support, but sideloading it on non-T-Mobile firmware won’t bring RCS support automagically.

The update also brings January security patches , which is rather hideous given the current date. Blame it on T-Mobile as well as the bi-monthly security update policy of OnePlus.

FYI, the official T-Mobile support page for tracking OnePlus 6T updates has not been updated yet.

With this official release of DU 13, OnePlus 3/3T and OnePlus 5/5T are officially supported. OnePlus 6/6T are not part of the initial roster, but they “… will hopefully join the line up for weeklies next month”.
