OnePlus call recording now available in India & China; tell the OEM why you want it in your region for faster evaluation

OnePlus is one of the smartphone OEMs that have pre-baked the ability to record phone calls into the stock dialer app. However, it’s likely that the feature is unavailable in your country due to local laws and telecom regulations.

For some reason, Google’s stock Android does not support call recording, meaning the likes of Android One-totting Nokia, Motorola, and Xiaomi devices are not supported as well. To enable this feature on stock Android phones requires rooting, an undertaking not everyone is open to.

Even more baffling is that Google completely removed the call recording feature with the update to Android Pie. In Android Oreo and before, this was possible, but the search giant shut all avenues used by devs to enable call recording in Pie.

With the ability to record audio when making phone calls now gone, OEMs have been forced to remedy the situation by enabling the call recording feature in their stock dialer apps.

OnePlus is one of the OEMs that has enabled call recording in the stock dialer app. However, this feature hasn’t been around long enough to hit all major markets, especially those with some form of tough regulations.

But this is no more, at least for the likes of China and India. While responding to a feature request on its OnePlus IDEA program, a company staff member has revealed that OnePlus call recording is now available in India and China on multiple devices.

The devices in question are OnePlus 6/6T, OnePlus 7/7 Pro, and OnePlus 7T/7T Pro, but this is only true for those running the Open Beta builds. The story is also true for owners of these devices in the UK, France, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.

According to OnePlus, you can help bring the call recording feature to your region/country ahead of others by responding to this thread with details of why you need the feature in your country/region. This way, OnePlus will be able to “better evaluate the overall regional support.”
