Soon after early adopters got hands on the device, Chinese phone manufacturer OnePlus pushed the day one OTA to their newest flagship OnePlus 7 Pro units. It was this particular security patch which introduced an experimental DC dimming mode on OnePlus 7 Pro devices.
DC dimming, as some of you may already know, adjusts the brightness of the phone’s screen/display in line with the ambient environment. This feature basically uses the DC current to control brightness. So lower the voltage, the display will emit lesser light (or reduce the brightness).
Some of the AMOLED display phones that support DC dimming other than OnePlus 7/7 Pro include Xiaomi Mi 9, Oppo Reno 10X Zoom and Redmi K20 Pro. As for OnePlus 7/7 Pro devices, DC dimming can be enabled by heading to Settings> Utilities> OnePlus Laboratory.
Coming to light is a OnePlus 7 Pro/7 bug that’s somehow related to DC dimming. OnePlus maintains an official support page for troubleshooting issues related to OnePlus 7 series. And today the company updated this page acknowledging vertical lines or black dots issue on the device’s screen.
Though we couldn’t locate any reports – across the official forum or other online discussion platforms – from OnePlus 7 series’ users complaining about black dot or lines on screen, it could be possible the company received complaints through other channels, and that’s why they’ve confirmed the problem.
The OEM suggests OnePlus 7 Pro/7 users who are getting to see black dots or vertical lines on their phone’s screen to disable DC dimming, until the company takes care of whatever is causing this in the upcoming update.
In addition, if users are facing the issue despite DC dimming disabled, well in that case they are suggested to get in touch with OnePlus Support and share pictures of the issue along with other required details like IMEI number for further guidance.
