[Updated] OnePlus 7/7T series bags final Android 10-based security patch ahead of OxygenOS 11 (Android 11) roll out

OnePlus has been a dear brand to many tech enthusiasts for years now. One of the ways it managed to achieve this is by having an active community forum and listening to user feedback.

Being one of the best companies when it comes to rolling out timely security and bug-fix updates only went to further engrave this brand into the hearts of the said enthusiasts.

Sadly, the brand seems to have dropped the ball when it comes to rolling out Android 11 to its eligible devices. OnePlus 8 series got updated to OxygenOS 11 about a month after Google’s own devices.

However, it was not until earlier this year that we saw any more activity from the company with regards to Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 to the OnePlus Nord and the OnePlus 7 family of devices.

Well, it now looks like OnePlus is finally committed to the whole Android 11 update to its OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T devices as the company wraps up Android 10 development.

OnePlus is rolling out the final Android 10-based security update to its OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T devices, a move that effectively means that OxygenOS 11 stable isn’t that far.

The changelog for this update is as lean as they come, only indicating an update to the devices’ security patch level to January 2021 and Google Mobile Services.

This final Android 10 incremental update is rolling out to users of the OnePlus 7 devices as OxygenOS 10.3.8 for India and Global. OxygenOS 10.0.11 [EU] for the OnePlus 7, and 10.3.8 [India & Global] / OxygenOS 10.0.11 [EU] for the OnePlus 7 Pro will soon follow.

Similarly, the company is pushing out OxygenOS 10.3.8 for users of the OnePlus 7T in India and 10.0.16 for Global users of the OnePlus 7T. The company adds that the EU roll-out will follow shortly.

As all eyes now move to Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T, attention is going to be focused on the feedback from users running the Open Beta builds.

IST 12:30 pm: New reports from users of the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T who have updated their devices to this build indicate that the update broke GPay (Google Pay) functionality. More on that here.
