The OnePlus 6T became the company’s first to be officially sold in the U.S. through a carrier when it arrived in late 2018 – T-Mobile.

The 6T has been succeeded in the U.S. market by the even better OnePlus 7T, but this doesn’t make it obsolete. Matter of fact, the discounts after the arrival of the OnePlus 7 Pro in early 2019 made buying the 6T a no-brainer for anyone on a budget.

To date, the device still remains one of the best from the company and in fact, it is still in the hands of many Americans despite selling exclusively through T-Mobile. This is because the unlocked model is also compatible with other carriers, including Verizon Wireless.

What this means – or at least what it meant back then – is that you can easily pick a U.S. unlocked OnePlus 6T, slap in a Verizon SIM card, and enjoy the 6T on a CDMA network.

Sure, this is still the case even today. However, there is one issue popping up for OnePlus 6T and even some OnePlus 7T owners on the Big Red network where incoming MMS or text messages (Google Messages) aren’t going through.

Google messages cannot receive/download MMS messages. However, other apps can. Google messages is also able to send MMS messages. The problem is purely downloading them. I’m always left with “Message expired or not available”. I have cleared the cache of the app, joining the beta program, and leaving the beta program, reinstalled the app, tried receiving them with WiFi off, reset APN settings, restarted the phone, cleared the phone’s cache, among other things. While I am able to simply use the built in app to solve the issue, I’d like to continue using Google Messages. My phone is the OnePlus 6t running the latest update, and this is a new issue. I was able to receive them in the past.

@OnePlus_Support I love your phone, but due to the issues with receiving MMS texts and how slow my 6T has been on Verizon since Android 10, I do not think I will get another one. Which sucks, because I loved this phone for the first 9 months I had it.

It’s not the first time OnePlus 6T is experiencing text messaging issues on Verizon. It did happen back in 2018 in the early days of the device, but it seems to have re-emerged following the recent update to Android 10.

Matter of fact, the issue is no longer limited to Verizon as some T-Mobile users of the 6T also say they’ve faced similar issues with text messaging.

I have the OnePlus 6t also and I have the same problem and performed the same steps as OP. I am on TMobile.

Plenty of other reports have been filed in the OnePlus forums regarding this same issue. Going by the info in the threads, it seems this issue became widespread after the update to OxygenOS 10.3.0 and even with the update to OxygenOS 10.3.1, nothing has been fixed.

Apparently, despite the many workarounds that have been suggested, the one that seems to work is getting a new Verizon SIM card. This, however, is likely to be just a temporary fix, with some getting back to the same issue after a while.

If anything, only a software update can fix this issue, especially since it wasn’t there before the update to Android 10. As for when this fix will be pushed, no one knows. But as usual, we will keep an eye on the story and bring you updates as and when we get them.
