OnePlus began their journey with the tagline ‘flagship killer’ in 2014. Considering the price and the features OnePlus One offered, everyone had to agree with the company. Fast forward to today, their pricing is on par with the top-of-the-line devices from other companies.

OnePlus is the Xiaomi of mid-range flagships ?. No one could have imagined a phone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset at $300 before OnePlus One went official. To get a perspective, Samsung Galaxy S5 launched in 2014 with the same SoC wore a price tag of $650.

Just like we got many value for money phones from Chinese brands after Xiaomi’s disruptive entry, the mid-range flagship segment also has offerings from companies other than OnePlus now. Take Asus and Redmi (Xiaomi) for examples.

OnePlus has a pretty good track record with software updates. In case you are not aware, they have rolled out Android 10 stable for OnePlus 7/7 Pro about 20 days after the same hit Google Pixel. Although they had paused the OTA due to widespread glitches, it was rereleased within two days.

As for their earlier models (6/6T), Android 10 went live via open beta channels on October 19 with a handful of bugs, apparently. In the beginning of this month, they have started rolling out the stable build. Is it devoid of glitches?

Well, it’s not! One of the irking issue is pertaining to the on-screen fingerprint scanner. For many, the animation stays longer than it should. Even after unlocking the handset, the customers are seeing the fingerprint scanner animation for 2-3 seconds (see a demo here).

Although this particular concern has no effect on the performance, it irritates the users most of the time. Moreover, being a OnePlus 6T user, I can confirm its presence on open beta 1 as well. Meaning, they delivered the stable build without fixing it.

So, what if you do not want to see the animation after unlocking the device? Well, Android 10 has a workaround! You can just turn off the exuberant animation altogether by following Settings>> Security & lock screen>> Fingerprint>> Fingerprint animation effect and choosing None.
