In terms of software engineering, the stable release channel usually lags behind the regular beta or bleeding edge nightly branches. The delay is originated due to the volume of experiments needed to ensure the stability.

However, regular users get annoyed when they receive much older patches as part of new software update. Take the example of the OnePlus 6 and 6T: the phone duo got OxygenOS 9.0.13 and 9.0.5 respectively back in end of April with March 2019 security patches.

On the other hand, both OnePlus 5 and 5T got OxygenOS 9.0.5 OTA update around the same time with April security patches. The inconsistencies erupted further unrest, as these phones already got May security update via Open Beta channel.

This is the first week of June, and OnePlus has finally started to roll out a new set of stable channel updates for the OnePlus 6 and 6T. OxygenOS 9.0.6/9.0.14 brings a number of bug fixes, including the May 2019 security patch.

The combined changelog is as follows:

System

– Updated Android Security Patch to 2019.5

– General bug fixes and improvements

Bluetooth

– Support for Quick Pairing of Bullets Wireless 2 added

– Improved stability and compatibility of Bluetooth

Launcher

– Improved confirm password UI for hidden space

Camera (OnePlus 6T)

– Optimized photo quality from the front camera

Bug fix

– Fixed issue with ringtone for SMS

– Fixed issue with speed dial getting cleared

– Fixed issue loading credentials required WiFi requiring Login

PiunikaWeb followers should remember the Speed Dial contacts auto-deletion bug that we covered earlier. As a matter of fact, OnePlus officially acknowledged the existence of the weird issue and fixed it internally for a while.

The front camera of OnePlus 6T has also received fixes to improve the camera quality. But OnePlus 7 series exclusive features like Zen Mode or integrated Screen Recorder couldn’t make their way to this stable update from beta channel.

As you can see, the revamped System Updater is still absent on the stable channel. We guess the Shenzhen OEM will eventually slow down the updates on OxygenOS 9.0.x branch to jump to the 9.5.x branch. Till then, the beta channel will serve as the testing ground for backported features.

The updates are currently being distributed in waves, so OnePlus 6/6T users need to wait for their turn to receive the OTA. However, you can grab the full update package from the following link (courtesy of Oxygen Updater project):
