New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on April 1, 2021) follows:
OnePlus had a pretty long lull following the rollout of stable OxygenOS 11 to the OnePlus 8 series back in October last year.
Understandably so as the company was embroiled in a vicious cycle of bug fixing and dealing with the backlash of its Samsung-inspired custom Android 11 skin, OxygenOS 11.
Since then, however, we have seen the company finally rolling out stable builds of Android 11 to its OnePlus 7 series of devices and the OnePlus Nord.
Of course, there are the other eligible OnePlus Nord devices, the OnePlus Nord N10 and the Nord N100 that are also eligible for just this one update
However, the logical devices that are next in line for a stable dose of OxygenOS 11 from the company are the oldest supported devices, the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T.
We have been following closely all the development surrounding this build (which hasn’t really been much) and you can check that in our continued coverage of the same.
So, what is the status of this build at the moment? Well, new reports from OnePlus’ official Chinese forum indicate that users might be looking at a few more months of waiting.
This because it now turns out that OnePlus plans to start pushing out public Beta builds for Android 11 in August.
When will OnePlus 6 & 6T adapt to hydrogen OS 11?
A: The public beta version is expected to be released at the end of August, and the progress will continue to be synchronized with everyone in the future. Stay tuned for community question answering posts and announcements.
This info applies to the company’s Chinese ROM, HydrogenOS for the OnePlus 6 and 6T. However, history has shown us that any such development is often mirrored to OxygenOS within a few days or weeks.
This means that users of the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T are looking at timelines well into the third and fourth quarter of 2021 for their stable builds of Android 11.
This isn’t really going to fair well with users who already feel left out as their devices approach their end of life.
Luckily for these device owners, OnePlus is one of the most developer-friendly OEMs we have today and there is no shortage of Android 11-based custom ROMs for these devices. ROMs that are already fairly stable.
We shall continue to keep an eye on this Android 11 for OnePlus 6 and 6T and update as and when we get more info on the same so stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.
