Original story (published on March 24) follows:

OnePlus is the only non-Google handset maker to deliver at least three OS upgrades to its devices over the past couple of years.

The first duo was the OnePlus 3 and 3T, having arrived running Android Marshmallow and currently sit on Android Pie. The second duo is the OnePlus 5 and 5T, which is in line to receive the update to Android 10 OS.

The two arrived in 2017 running Android Nougat out of the box and have since been upgraded to Oreo and Pie. With the upcoming OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T Android 10 update, it will make it three OS upgrades. In total, the devices will have seen four different OS versions.

OnePlus 5 and 5T Android 10 update release date

As you can see in the image above, the pair is expected to receive an Android 10 update this coming Q2 2020, but OnePlus would not be bullied into giving a release date.

When revealing details of the OnePlus 5 and 5T Android 10 update, the Chinese vendor reiterated that there are no ETAs for the rollout. But later on, it confirmed Q2 2020 as the availability window.

Indeed, as of this writing, folks using the China variants of both OnePlus 5 and 5T can now take an early look into what Android 10 has in store before even the company makes an official announcement.

Leaked HydrogenOS 10 builds for both devices are doing rounds online and according to those who have already installed the firmware, things seem to be working fine.

Of course, the usual bugs expected in early beta builds won’t be missed, so be sure that you really want to walk down this road. For those interested in trying the ROMs on their OnePlus 5 or 5T units, remember this is meant for China and hence you’ll have to sideload GApps.

Here is some feedback from those who have installed the OS:

If you guys wanna try this rom, open gapps mini package works fine. I don’t use Google pay, but play store, sync works good.

Installed it, nice! I did it the not official way, installed the zip via local update. Some apps not working, most of them do though. Should I install gapps mini as recommended? And uninstall play store? The official play store works fine.

I installed this everything works fine except that I can’t download any apk anymore. I can’t download any games. I get some error at installation. I tried anything like unistalling the playstore, cleaning data etc but won’t work. Any sollution?

For those wondering why this is important, well, the fact that working OnePlus 5 and 5T Android 10 beta builds are somewhere out there, even if it’s for China variants alone, means the rollout is in sight.

This latest development adds more weight to a recent report that Android 10 may arrive on the 2017 pair somewhere between the end of May and mid-June, although this is still for the Chinese market. The rest of the globe (OxygenOS) should get it before Q2 2020 ends.

If interested to try HydrogenOS 10 on your OnePlus 5 or 5T, we have the download links below, but as noted earlier, this is an unstable version that cannot be used as a daily driver. Also, do this at your own risk.
