Over the recent past, we’ve documented a couple or so Shield TV issues that owners of the set-top boxes are experiencing. Even though NVIDIA has done its part to address some of these issues, not all of them have been fixed.
Matter of fact, it is almost impossible to get rid of all software-related issues, especially since new bugs keep showing up after every other software update.
Issues like the HDMI-CEC thingy and excessive IR battery draining that are affecting 2019 Shield TV models have popped up lately.
Not long ago, we also reported about an issue where Netflix won’t work on NVIDIA Shield units unless you have Shield Experience v8.0.1 or later.
According to NVIDIA, this will be the requirement not just for Netflix, but also for other movie streaming services like Movies Anywhere and DC Universe. In fact, some say the Netflix addon in KODI isn’t working either, but an update to Experience 8.0.1 should do the trick.
Movies anywhere /dc universe have needed 8.0.1 for the last month or so, now Netflix and soon more will also need 8.0.1 in order to stream. There are issues in the old software that the streaming services need to avoid. The change applies to all SHIELD TVs.
Unfortunately for some, installing the latest Shield Experience 8.0.1 has proven to be an uphill task. In case you come across installation issues with Experience 8.0.1, NVIDIA says enabling the setting to download the full image for an OTA in the developer options should fix it.
Enable developer options, then go down to the bottom of developer options and enable the setting that downloads the full image for an OTA.

In the event that you have been experiencing an issue where Shield TV Dolby Vision toggle bar in Visual setting is missing from your Philips TV, worry not because NVIDIA says its a known issue.
In fact, the company has confirmed that the bug will be addressed in the next software update the Shield TV picks up, but we don’t know when exactly it will be released. Of course, we will keep an eye on the developments and let you know when the OTA arrives.
