The dedicated camera Night Mode (Night Sight) must have been one of the most talked-about smartphone features in 2019. With HMD Global boasting a unique photography smartphone in the Nokia 9 PureView, the company was also expected to add this feature to the device at some point.
Initially, it was thought the Nokia 9 PureView camera updates would be included in the switch to Android 10 OS. But when the device’s early Android 10 build leaked, it was established that Night Mode was missing.
Indeed, when the Nokia 9 PureView Android 10 update arrived in early December, the feature wasn’t included. It didn’t take long before owners of the device started asking questions about Night Mode.
In response, Nokia Mobile (on Twitter) promised to bring camera updates to the device that would be “worth the wait.”
Although there was no specific mention of the Night Mode in the response, there was no doubt that it would be part of the said Nokia 9 PureView camera updates.
Less than two weeks later, the Juho Sarvikas dropped the bomb by suggesting that the Nokia 9 PureView won’t receive the promised camera updates or rather the Night Mode feature.
When the December security patch arrived early last month, there were no camera updates to show off. Likewise, there hasn’t been any significant camera additions since the January patch arrived.
Sure, no one knows what HMD is lining up in the February and subsequent security patches, but what is clear is that many are disappointed by the lack of the promised Nokia 9 PureView camera updates.
Half the time using the actual camera app, the picture won’t take and the app essentially freezes. I only see reboots when other apps call the camera app (snapchat, messenger, concur etc..). It’s also about 50% of the time that the phone reboots here.
