Android device makers are in a rush to push the latest Android 10 update to their devices following the official release of the OS by Google in early September.

The Google Pixels and Essential Phone picked it up on day one and have since been joined by the likes of OnePlus 7, OnePlus 7 Pro, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T, Xiaomi Mi 9, Mi 9T Pro/Redmi K20 Pro, Asus ZenFone 6 aka Asus 6Z, Nokia 8.1, and so on.

Nokia 8.1 is the only HMD device to have received Android 10 stable update to date

It’s a little disappointing that HMD Global has only managed to update one device, the Nokia 8.1, to Android 10 up until now. Given that its devices are Android One-based, the updates were expected to arrive pretty soon after Google started the rollout.

On the brighter side, the company has provided an official Android 10 roadmap that confirms that devices like the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus, and Nokia 7 Plus will be second in line to receive the OS after the Nokia 8.1, Nokia 7.1, and Nokia 9 PureView.

Even better is that while the wait for the official stable version to arrive could take weeks or maybe even months, notable developer Hikari Calyx has been on top of his game digging out the internal Android 10 beta firmware for various Nokia devices as they show up.

The developer already gave us early treats to Android 10 on the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 6.1 Plus and Nokia 7.1. More recently, the same developer brought a working Android 10 build, albeit unstable, to the Nokia 7, a device that is sold in China.

The unofficial Nokia 7 Android 10 update is based off the leaked Nokia 6.1 Android 10 build thanks to the fact that these two devices have the same internals and thus run the same base software, albeit with some region-based tweaks.

Given that there are various similarities to the architecture of the chipsets powering the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7, and Nokia 7 Plus, it shouldn’t be long before the latter gets its own Android 10 build as well via the same channel.

Besides, its the only device from the second trio of Nokia devices that will soon be upgraded to Android 10 that hasn’t received the new OS unofficially, so yeah, it should get it pretty soon.

A techy. Besides phones, I also enjoy the farm, music, football, and, of course, food.
