Nokia, the once endeared brand that fell from grace, is back. This time under HMD Global and producing Android phones. Good Android phones. These devices cater to all the market segments from the Nokia 9 Pureview, all the way to the entry-level Nokia 1.
One of the reasons these new phones are popular is these device’s software, Android One. Nokia handed over the software reigns to the mothership, Google. And Google knows a thing or two about software. Having Google handle most of the software means two things.
First, the software is as close to Stock Android as possible so it is functional and easy to use. Secondly, this means that updates are pushed out really quickly compared to other OEMs.
As many phone makers are busy dealing with Beta versions of their builds of Android 10, Nokia is also winding up rolling out this update on its flagships. Most of the high end devices from Nokia expect to get updated in Q4. The more budget offings should get it by Q2 2020.
Sticking with the theme of Nokia being ahead of the curve in terms of updates, today the Verizon version of Nokia 2 V bags a new security update.
Nokia 2 V: V for Verizon
Nokia 2 V got the October Security Update in early October. The new update in this month should carry the November patchset, but the changelog mentions October. Is it a typo? We can’t verify at this moment.
The new OTA (System Update 7) carries a release date of November 11 and bumps the Software Version to 00WW_1_13F from 00WW_1_13E.
The Nokia 2 V is a variant of the Nokia 2.1 and since the latter will be upgraded to Android 10 in Q2 2020, it’s also likely that Verizon will push the OS upgrade to its model at around the same time.
As for now, Nokia 2.1 also received October patch a few weeks ago. Let’s see if the carrier variant can break the record and grab the November patch before everyone or not.
Being an OTA update that has just been rolled out, you may have to wait for a few days before the download notification arrives on your device.
