Nokia 2 September security update starts rolling out

Nokia ruled the phone market years ago. A typical buyer didn’t usually bat their eyes on products from other companies back then. However, the Finnish firm didn’t foresee what’s coming. Their reluctance to adapt to contemporary changes had backfired them.

Slowly, the brand retired to the bottom in the priority list of customers. In an attempt to revive the business, they tried releasing gadgets with Windows Phone OS. It didn’t work! As a last resort, Nokia X family hit the market in 2014, running on a Linux-based platform (a fork of Android).

Everything the OEM did went wrong! Android was blooming on the other side! But, Nokia tried everything but the Android. Almost all other brands shifted their platform to suit the trend. And, they started reaping the benefits. That’s when the old king had to back off.

In 2016, HMD Global acquired the license to release Nokia-branded phones. They were also given access to essential patents and feature phone software. Thus, Nokia 6 went live in January next year with Android 7.1.1 (Nougat).

HMD now has an array of Android smartphones. Even though Nokia couldn’t defy the competition in terms of popularity and features, a CounterPoint Research study revealed that they performed better than any other brand in updating to the latest Android version since August 2018.

They are not far behind in the security patches as well. Yesterday, Nokia 8, 6 (2017), and 5 (2017) received September update. A few days ago, Nokia 7.2, 5.1, and 3.1 got the same. It has now hit Nokia 2 too.

You will not get anything new with the package (based on Android 7.1.1). It just bumps up the security patch to the latest version. Owing to its 80 MB size, you won’t have to burn a significant portion of your data pack. As of now, the OTA has hit the Indian units.

In case you don’t see an update pending on your Nokia 2, you will have to wait for a few days. Like we always say, over the air overhauls go out in batches. Meaning, not all the units get the notification at the same time.
