New Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S update (MIUI 10.3.3.0) brings Dark Mode, Lock screen clock, face unlock for apps & May security patch

Xiaomi recently shared the company’s MIUI update roadmap for Android Q. While Redmi K20 Pro/K20, Mi Mix 3, Mi Mix 2S, Mi 9, Mi 9 SE, Mi 8, Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition & Mi 8 Explorer Edition will be upgraded in Q4, this year, Redmi Note 7 Pro/Note 7 will get the same in Q1, next year.

Among the listed devices, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S, as you may know, is the Chinese OEM’s last year’s high-end device powered by Snapdragon 845 chipset. The phone originally shipped with Android 8.0 (Oreo) layered with MIUI 10. Few months from the release, the phone was bumped to Android 9.0 Pie.

The phone received it’s last security update (MIUI 10.3.2.0) back in the month of April but it brought along the March patch. And there was complete silence for about two months. And now Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S is receiving the May security update (not the latest though) in the month of June .

The update bears bulid number MIUI 10.3.3.0.PDGMIXM and weighs ~360MB.

Coming to what new this update brings apart from an updated security patch, as per the changelog, Mi Mix 2S users will now be able to unlock apps using the face unlock feature. A new customizable Lock screen clock has also been added.

In addition, users can now disable the notification shade on the lockscreen as well. Mi Mi 2S users can also stay on the Lock screen after using face unlock.

As for bug fixes, the update fixes issues like ending calls taking longer than expected, buggy face unlock prompts, low battery warning missing on Landscape mode, LED light not blinking in low battery, status bar shortcut and floating notifications for call showing up at the same time and more.

While the changelog doesn’t specify this, a lot of users have confirmed they can enable the system-wide Dark Mode after this update. As Xiaomi exec Alvin recently confirmed with Redmi Note 7 Pro, looks like Xiaomi is testing dark mode on more phones before bringing the feature in MIUI 11.
