Not every hero wears a cape, and I do like to include some Android OEMs in this list. The reasons are pretty much obvious: Chinese giant Xiaomi recently delivered the first Android Q based beta builds of MIUI for Mi 9 and Redmi K20 Pro with numerous new features.

On the other hand, Realme is relentlessly working on providing timely security patches to their entire product portfolio. This young OEM released August patches for Realme 2 and C1 two days ago, while they are developing an entire new skin allegedly named as Realme OS.

End users love to have periodic update prompts on their phones that would bring new features and bugfixes. Despite being the David among many Goliaths, Realme understood this plain old logic. Even their CEO connects with the internet fan base and responds to relevant queries.

Talking about Realme 3, the MediaTek Helio P70 powered phone was launched in March of this year. As you can see from the above tweet, the company pushed the July security patch paired with some under-the-hood bug fixes in the form of A.19 update.

Less than two weeks later, Realme 3 owners are now reporting about a new OTA hitting their phones. The size of the incremental update is less than 100 MB, while the build number is A.20 (also a minor increment).

The changelog talks about fixing “known issues” and enhancing “system stability”, i.e. the typical placeholder one. The security patch level remains unchanged (July 2019), but the stock kernel receives a minuscule update.

It could be possible that Realme is grooming the phone for the upcoming August patch and the A.20 build is nothing but a preparatory update for that. Rest assured, the volume of internal changes is quite minimal.

On the other hand, Xiaomi is pushing a similar staged OTA for the Mi MIX 2S. Allow me to remember you, the artistic former flagship gained the ability to use pocket mode while in lock screen via MIUI 10.3.4.0 update in late July. The new one (10.3.5.0), however, looks like a generic bug fix update.

The 182 MB OTA is marked as ‘beta stable’, which means Xiaomi is currently evaluating the stability of this build by a small scale rollout. Albeit the changelog only deals with Mi Cloud syncing related issues, apparently the update bundles July security patch too!

We are unable to capture the full OTA package for Realme 3, but you can download the same for Mi MIX 2S from the following link (credit goes to yshalsager):
