Like other OEMs, Samsung has been actively updating all of its supported mid-range and flagship smartphones. Just recently, Samsung’s two-generations old flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S8 received the December security patch.
And today, as of writing this, Samsung is updated its 2018 mid-range smartphone Galaxy A8 Star.
As you might know, Samsung released this mid-range smartphone in June 2018. The Galaxy A8 Star sported a premium aluminum and glass construction and it was powered by Qualcomm SDM660 processor. This mid-range chipset is still holding up pretty good by 2019 standards.
The dual-camera setup on this smartphone is still ideal for capturing high-quality photos and videos.
Leaving the specs aside, after months of waiting, the Galaxy A8 Star is finally receiving the November security update (yes, an outdated patch as we’re already halfway through December). The last update that the device received was the August security patch.
And now, the November patch is being pushed, the short and crisp changelog of which states:

The security of your device has been improved.
In addition to the security patch, this update also comes with a new v3 bootloader. Consequently, if you update your Galaxy A8 star, you won’t be able to downgrade to the v2 bootloader. As a matter of fact, you won’t be able to install and use any build that’s based on the v2 bootloader.
If you haven’t received the software update notification yet then you can effortlessly download and install this update on your device by going to Settings → Software Update → Download and Install.
