Humor me, but some phonemakers have faced really hard time to provide a stable update for their phones. Remember those truckload of glitches faced by Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 and M2 users after the Android Pie OTA? Well, the saga still continues.
The newest example of this dreadful quality control is Realme C1 and Realme 2. Due to the extensive similarities between these two phones, their firmware builds are pretty close. That’s the exact reason for which both of them got the stable Pie update (ColorOS 6) one after another.
Interestingly, the initial Pie build (A.54) did not reach to majority of Realme 2/C1 owners. Weeks later, the Chinese OEM silently started to push a new software version (A.56) for this phone duo. The changelogs between the two builds were virtually identical.
Did Realme pulled back the A.54 update due to some last minute show stopper bugs? We still don’t know the answer. What we do know is that another new software version began to hit Realme C1 and Realme 2 units in India during last week.
Carrying the build tag of A.57, this OTA brought August security patches for both phones. The App market, part of Realme software ecosystem, also made its way via this update.
Guess what? End users are clueless once again, as the official download portal is still pointing to the age-old ColorOS 5.2 as the latest software for these phones. Only a fraction of the total user base are getting these new builds, and there is no official announcement regarding the roll out.
To make the situation more complicated, the company has started to push yet another new OTA for Realme 2/C1. An incremental OTA of size 441 MB is reportedly available on some Realme C1 as well as Realme 2 units, although the changelog is pretty minimal.
No need to get excited by looking at the file size, as the changelog marks it as a typical bug fix OTA. ColorOS 6 based on Android Pie indeed introduced a number of issues, but we are not sure how many of them are fixed in this update.
Due to the limited availability of the update, we are unable to spot a concise list of under-the-hood changes at the time of writing this article. Do let us know any noticeable improvement after installing the A.59 OTA on your Realme 2/C1.
