Paying a fortune to early-adopt a brand new piece of tech often comes with own set of issues. For example, the first generation 4G phones were plagued with atrocious battery drain issues due to the power hungry cellular modems.

The same pattern can be seen on the initial 5G phones from various manufacturers. The OEMs are rolling out frequent software updates to address the reported bugs, but the number of issues tend to supersede the amount of patches.

Take the case of OnePlus 7 Pro 5G: the first 5G phone from the Shenzhen based OEM is based on the LTE variant of OnePlus 7 Pro, but with an additional Snapdragon X50 5G modem. However, existing customers are facing various glitches related to network connectivity and OTA installation.

OnePlus was well aware of the issues and promised to release a new patch to resolve them

After a longer than normal waiting period, OnePlus is finally rolling out the new OTA for the 5G variant of OnePlus 7 Pro. As anticipated before, the version number of the new build is 9.5.4.GM27BA.

This time, OnePlus’ Manu J. has published the update announcement thread way before than usual. The complete changelog is as follows:

System

– Optimized DC dimming

– Improved touch sensitivity for the screen

– Optimized Double Tap to Wake and Ambient Display

– General bug fixes and improvements

Camera

– Fixed issue with the pop-up camera opening for an incoming video call while the screen is off or locked

Launcher

– Fixed issue with fingerprint animation persisting on the screen while unlocked successfully

– Fixed issue with app icons failing to display while unlocked successfully

The touch sensitivity as well as the ambient display and double tap to wake (DT2W) issues are known for a while. As a matter of fact, the previous update (9.5.3.GM27BA) for OnePlus 7 Pro 5G did bundle some fixes to address the buggy ambient display.

The unwanted selfie camera popup glitch was acknowledged too by the company. However, the new build neither brings an updated monthly security patch, nor the camera improvements as we saw in the regular LTE variant.

For some unknown reasons, OnePlus removed the thread where EE customers were discussing various issues with OTA update installation. Call it a coincidence or what?

Thanks to the Oxygen Updater community, we have our hands on the full update package for manual update. You should also check out our OnePlus 7 series update index to track these OTAs.
