If you closely follow the hardware design language of Android phones over last few years, you can clearly see the transitioning from notch to motorized camera modules in order to minimize the front bezel. Well, don’t forget the short-lived hole punch displays!

Besides Samsung, a handful of other OEMs tried out the punch hole stance. Motorola has a particularly interesting lineup of phones – namely Motorola One Vision and the upcoming Motorola One Action – both sporting ultralong 21:9 display with a hole housing the selfie camera.

Huawei, similar to Motorola, implemented the punch hole design in IPS LCD panel which is technically a bit inferior than Samsung’s design on multi-layer AMOLED panel. The Chinese OEM launched a couple of phones, such as the flagship grade Honor 20, with such design.

Announced in May and globally released in June, Honor 20 is fueled by the top end HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC. Apart from the punch hole laden 32 MP front camera, the phone features a whopping quad rear camera setup (48+16+16+2 MP).

In terms of RAM and storage, only a single configuration of 6 GB/128 GB is available, which is kinda unusual in today’s standards. On the software side, Honor 20 runs Android Pie based Magic UI 2.1 (a fork of EMUI 9.1) out of the box.

Now Huawei/Honor is reportedly pushing a new software update to the Indian Honor 20 (codename: YAL-AL00) units. The build tag of the OTA is 9.1.0.126 (C675E5R1P1) and the size of the incremental package is 759 MB.

The update is mostly focused on camera performance, as it contains a bunch of under-the-hood stability fixes for photography under different scenarios. It also improves the touchscreen sensitivity and brings enhanced smoothness in System UI.

Huawei also bundled July 2019 security patches with this OTA. We can’t speculate anything about the availability of this update outside India, but it should eventually roll out to other regions as well.
