Motorola One Power July security update starts rolling out

When Motorola made the One and One Power phones official back in August last year, the company was bullish about Android Pie for these devices, saying these will be the first phones to get the update.

Inline with this, the Pie update for the Snapdragon 636 powered One Power (which was initially launched with Android 8.1) was released in November (nearly a month after the device went on sale).

As their names suggest, both Moto One and Moto One Power are Android One phones as well. So how have they been performing with monthly updates? After all, the Android One program guarantees regular monthly updates.

Well, speaking about the Motorola One Power, which is known as Motorola P30 Note in China, the monthly update situation is not ideal. For example, the April update, which arrived only a handful on units in April.

But if you talk about the ongoing month of July, things seem to be better as the July security patch has started rolling out to the device. Yes, this month’s update has arrived at least a week before the month gets over.

As you can see in the screenshot below, the new update arrives as version PPTS29.74-41-5-2. And it clearly states Android security updates up to July 1 are included.

Sadly, nothing seems to be included in this update, at least if you go by the change log. Here’s what a user reported over at XDA Developers forum:

However, keep in mind that sometimes companies quietly slip in bug fixes or other improvements, so do keep a sharp eye after you install the update.
