Despite creating the history by releasing the first mobile phone, Motorola couldn’t stay on top of the competition in the smartphone era. For the same reason, they had to go through different hands including Google and Lenovo.

The old Motorola was synonymous with timely updates, especially in the Google days. The search engine titan focused on releasing OTAs simultaneously for Moto and Nexus. The whole story changed when Lenovo acquired Motorola Mobility. For instance, Moto e5 Plus and Play didn’t (won’t) get even a single major OS overhaul.

Moto Z2 Force and Z2 Play received Android 9.0 Pie recently. To recall, both the models hit the market exactly two years ago. And, they rolled out the update when every other vendor is working on Android 10.

Things weren’t smooth with security patches as well. Moto G6 Play users outside the US had to wait until 19 August to receive the June update. The brand’s fast OTA delivery has only been living in memories since long. But wait! Did Motorola decide to redeem themselves?

It’s only 2 October 2019. Guess what! Motorola has announced October security patches for One Action, Moto G7, G7 Plus, G7 Play, e5 Play, and x4. Apart from enhancing the safety measures, the packages bring nothing new to any of the phones.

Motorola One Action is fairly a new kid on the block. Released in August this year, it features a 6.3-inch punch-hole display. Out of the box, the handset runs on Android 9.0 Pie. On the contrary to the tradition, Motorola has opted for Exynos 9609 SoC for One Action.

Among the six devices, to which the latest patch is coming, e5 Play lies at the entry-level end. Its 5.2-inch display bears a huge forehead and a chin. We know you are frustrated with the brand for not releasing at least a single major OS update (not going to happen ever!).

In fact, e5 Play is getting Android Oreo-based October patch. You may not get it at once given the announcement has gone live only now. It should start rolling out in a week. Go to Settings>> System>> System updates for manual checking.

We will update this story when the OTAs start hitting device units. Don’t forget to stay tuned!
