Motorola holds the feat of releasing the first mobile phone ever in the history. In 1983, they came up with what was called DynaTAC 8000X. The company seemed to flourish during the early years of smartphone period.

Owing to in-house financial crisis, they couldn’t do business on its own. That’s how the search engine titan came into the limelight. Google acquired Motorola Mobility & continued with their smartphones.

However, the path wasn’t flowery.

The Chinese models were already dominating over every other smartphone. Even the ‘big G’ couldn’t reinstate the business for Motorola. It was the Lenovo’s then. Despite the depleted user-base, they released four different variants of G7 this year – Moto G7, G7 Play, G7 Plus & G7 Power.

However, it won’t be wrong saying Moto’s transformation from flier to crawler with software updates has started irking users. It was only a few days ago that G7 Power received a new OTA security update. Although, disappointing was the June security patch the update carried.

Cut to now. The same is making way to Moto G7/G7 Plus devices. To recall, Moto G7 went official in February 2019. It features 6.2-inch full HD+ LCD display. Underneath the hood, you can find Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 chipset coupled with 4 GB RAM.

The 64 GB on-board storage can be expanded up to 1 TB using an external SD card. As for optics, the phone houses a dual rear camera setup with 12 MP primary and a 5 MP depth sensor. Lenovo launched the device with Android Pie out of the box.

Leaving the specs aside, the currently circulating June OTA update is now hitting the standard Moto G7 and Moto G7 Plus devices. In case you own the device and still didn’t get it, just wait for some time. You will eventually see an update notification.

Going by the changelog, there appear to be no significant changes other than the updated security patch. Just like the one for G7 Power, the update for G7 & G7 Plus also comes bundled with June security patch, and some stability improvements.

The version differs based on the device. While the update on Moto G7 bears build number PPO29.114-134, the one of Moto G7 Plus reads PPW29.98-111. Also, the size of the package file may also change depending on your base installed version.

Additionally, on the official forum, a user was found to have come with installation error. He kept on getting “Software update unsuccessful. Sorry, there was a problem updating your Moto G7. No changes were made.” message. We are not sure if it appears on multitudes of devices.

As is often the case with firmware updates, they’re rolled out in batches, so the June OTA may take time to land on all Moto G7 and G7 Plus devices. So keep patience and happy installing!
