The clock is ticking! The software giant Google will release the latest version of Android OS, Android Q any day now. This 10th major release cum the 17th version of Android is expected to bring better performance, enhance user interface, and bring along some out-of-the-box features.
With Google pushing regular Beta updates, Android Q’s work has been progressing over months. In fact, the last developer preview was released a few days back only, which conveys the stable one should be out soon. Those among you, who are supposedly tech enthusiasts can check your device’s eligibility for the upcoming OS here.
Well, some of Google’s top partner OEMs have already teased Android Q on eligible devices before the official launch. Take for example Xiaomi’s Mi 9 (Chinese variant) and Redmi K20 Pro, which will be getting the Android Q-based MIUI 11.
BBK owned, Oneplus also announced the Android Q update for its devices. Even OnePlus units have been getting continuous Android Q developer preview. Also, in a recent, story, we also mentioned the advent of the Android Q update on T-Mobile Oneplus 7 Pro and Oneplus 6T.
Huawei, the Chinese OEM has already listed the name of the devices that are upgradable to Q. Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X, Mate 20 X (5G), Mate 20 Porsche RS, Huawei P30, P30 Pro, & P30 Lite/Nova 4e will likely get Android Q in the first batch.
However, coming to the Lenovo owned Motorola, not a single Moto device made it to Android Q developer preview. And for now, only Moto G7 Play, G7 Power, G7, G7 Plus, Moto Z3, and Z3 Play have made it to the list of eligible Moto devices to get Android Q.
Before becoming a Lenovo subsidiary, Motorola used to be one of the brands to roll-out the faster Android updates, whether it be the security patches, or the major Android OS updates.
But now, Motorola struggles to arrange even timely security updates. For instance, just recently, we highlighted in our story the late advent of the Moto G5s Plus’ June security patch.
Anyway, talking about major OS updates, recently we stumbled upon a report, according to which Motorola Moto G6 & G6 Play Android Q update are confirmed. Surprise, surprise. The info comes in form a chat between a Facebook user and Moto support.
The user is reportedly a member of “Família Moto G’s e G’s Plus Brasil,” who reached out to the Moto Support asking for the upcoming update to Moto G6. And he was told that Motorola Moto G6 lineup i.e G6 & G6 Play will indeed be upgraded to Android Q, which will be the devices’ last major update.

For refresher, Motorola Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play, which feature Snapdragon 450 processor, decent battery capacity, were launched back in April 2018 with Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. And Android Q update will be the second and last major Android update for both of the devices.
It’s the right time to rejoice if you are a Motorola Moto G6 or Moto G6 Play user, as both the devices will be getting the latest Android Q update. Still, it’s not clear how long will it take for Motorola to roll out the Android Q update. Here’s hoping that happens sometime soon.
But at the same time, it’s worth mentioning all this info comes from a Moto support agent and could turn out to be a false, as no such thing has been shared by the OEM itself through their official channels yet. However, we hope that doesn’t turn out to be the case.
