American phone manufacturer Motorola shared a list of Android Pie compatible devices back in August last year. The list included device names like Moto Z2 Force edition, Moto Z3/Z3 Play, Moto Z2 Play, Moto X4, Moto G6/G6 Plus/G6 Play, Motorola One and Motorola One Power.
Among the above mentioned devices, just last month Android 9.0 Pie landed on Moto Z2 Force units. The update bumped the version to PPX29.159-10, and brought along the May security patch. However, the same got cancelled for US carriers other than Verizon i.e. T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T.
After Z2 Force, Pie made way to another Moto Z series’ device – Moto Z3 Play. The update carried build number PPW29.183-29-1 and brought along the April security patch on Z3 Play devices in the US. Then by the end of June, Android Pie was released by Verizon for Moto G6 models in the US.
For a quick refresher, Moto G6 is the American OEM’s 2018 low-end phone fueled by a Snapdragon 450 processor. The phone originally shipped with Android Oreo and was due to get to taste the Pie. And the US carrier Verizon was first to announce the update at their official website.
The firmware version PDS29.118-14 also brought along the April security patch. Soon after the update was released, Moto G6 users on other carrier locked and unlocked variants began inquiring across different social media platforms when is Pie going to make it to their units.
Going by the latest information that is coming from redditors, the unlocked variants of Moto G6 in the US have also begun receiving the long-awaited Android 9.0 Pie update.
The update bumps the version to PDS29.118-11-1. Unlike the Verizon update the brought the April patch, the currently rolling out Pie update on the unlocked variants brings the May security patch. Here’s a user shared image of the update notification:
As is usually the case with firmware updates, they are rolled out in phases, Pie will also take time to make it to all unlocked Moto G6 units in the US. So hang in tight, as you may get to see the update notification anytime now. Don’t forget to drop a comment & share with us your experience of Pie.
Update 1 (July)
Redditors have confirmed the update is now live even for the Amazon variants of Moto G6.
