[Updated] Xiaomi MIUI 12 (Android 11) update development has already begun; Mi Play will get it

As Google is prepping up for testing out the Android 11 operating system by releasing the Developer Preview 2, it is time for heavy skinned OEMs like Samsung, Xiaomi, etc. to take charge and start developing and testing their next iteration of the custom skin.

For naive, MIUI is the custom skin of Xiaomi phones. While there are still a bunch of phones waiting to get the MIUI 11 update, some new developments about the next iteration, i.e. the MIUI 12 have come up.

This is not the first time, something interesting about MIUI 12 has surfaced on PiunikaWeb. Matter of fact, we have earlier documented a post where a purported timeline of the MIUI 12 (Android 11) went online on the official community website of Xiaomi titled “MIUI 12 Official and Update schedule”.

This (now taken down) post stated the entire timeline of the rollout of the MIUI 12 (Android 11) for Xiaomi devices starting from September. While the stable update was scheduled to release in December this year.

Then came in a piece of news that Xiaomi has suspended the MIUI 11 beta updates hinting MIUI 12 update development is around the corner.

Now going by the latest developments in regards to MIUI 12, one of the Xiaomi moderators has confirmed that the MIUI 12 update development has already begun and Xiaomi Mi Play is expected to get MIUI 12.

There are absolutely No News about MIUI 12 for now, the Development has just begun… But Yes, I’m sure it will get MIUI 12 !

However, our readers should note that moderators of any forums may not always have the exact information. But you cannot rule out the positivity reflected in the statement which is at least a sign of MIUI 12 on Xiaomi Mi Play.

Besides, from the statement above, it is unclear whether MIUI 12 on Mi Play will be based on Android 10 or Android 11. But as per our theory, it should get Android 11-based MIUI 12 because the phone was released in 2018 with Android 9.0, which makes it eligible for Android 11 OS.

Xiaomi users should also keep in mind that not all Xiaomi/Redmi devices will get the new OS. In fact, we have a purported list of devices that will get the MIUI 12 update which you can check out here.
