The 5G master race is gradually picking up pace, as Android OEMs are launching truckload of 5G compatible variants of their existing flagship phones. While they often share similar components, the frequency of software updates on 5G models is usually lackluster compared to the regular 4G units.

Xiaomi took a slightly different approach while designing their first 5G phone. Mi MIX 3 5G was built on top of 2018’s Mi MIX 3, but the internals are completely different.

The regular model features Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC (instead of SD855), while sporting a slightly smaller (3,200 versus 3,800 mAh) battery.

As a matter of interest, the 4G model got its last software update back in April which brought March security patches. On the other hand, the 5G variant is eligible for Android Q public beta testing and already received a handful of OTA updates in last few months.

Worry not, as Xiaomi is currently rolling out MIUI 10.3.2.0 update for the regular Mi MIX 3 – targeting both Chinese and global units. Apart from June security patches, the new build bundles tons of new software features, such as lock screen pocket mode.

The complete changelog of this OTA is as follows:

System

– Optimization: Lock screen pocket mode

– Optimization: Updated Android Security Patch to June 2019. Increased system security.

Contacts

– Fix: Contacts couldn’t be deleted from SIM cards in some cases

Lockscreen, status bar, Notification shade

– New: Introducing customizable Lock screen clock (Settings > Lock screen & password > Advanced settings).

– New Lock screen clock doesn’t work with third party themes.

– New: More clock formats for Ambient display

– Fix: Issues with overlapping in Dual Clock settings

– Fix: Screen didn’t always light up for notifications

– Fix: Media volume couldn’t be restored after receiving a notification

Settings

– Optimization: Sorting principles for Wi-Fi networks

The customizable lock screen clock is a major attraction in the MIUI 10.3 branch, and MIX 3 users finally get the opportunity to taste the feature. Coupled with the 6.39 inches AMOLED screen, they really look stunning on the nearly bezel-less display.

Before you ask – yes – the systemwide dark mode is present in this build. The AMOLED friendly black theme would be a good choice to save some battery juice, although the proper implementation should come in the next major MIUI update (aka MIUI 11).
