Mi A3 is the first Android One Phone from Xiaomi that dumped the IPS LCD screen in favor of AMOLED display. The resolution is lower than its predecessors though, and you may face some flicking issues without the help of third party apps. Oh, the phone still runs Android Pie.

Well, Nokia 8.1 is the only Android One phone till date to receive official Android 10 OTA. I won’t say the transition experience is completely smooth, but the OEM is working on it. Other mid-rangers from HMD Global are scheduled to get the update in the coming weeks.

Thanks to Xiaomi support assistants, we had plenty of false hopes regarding the availability of stable Android 10 OTA for Mi A3. Unlike the regular Mi and Redmi phones running MIUI, there is no public beta testing initiative for Mi A3 as of yet.

The Chinese OEM pushed Pie based October security patches for the third gen Android One phone and debunked the rumors. However, the community members are getting suspicious when both Mi A2/A2 Lite and Mi A1 picked up November patches one after another, but Mi A3 was not in the roster.

What can I say – another mirage? The global variant of Mi A3 is currently getting November security patch, but not with Android 10. The changelog has nothing new, but the size of the OTA package is considerably larger (more than 200 MB).

After examining the incremental OTA package, it is evident that Xiaomi bundled a new set of firmware, modem and bootloader in this build (V10.3.9.0.PFQMIXM). Perhaps the preparation for the upcoming major update? Only time will tell.

It’s not just a update for security patch, here’s the latest OTA extracted, as you can see there’s a lot of small changes in the whole firmware; performance wise we will have to test it though.

The European variant of Mi A3 is still running October patch at the time writing this article. Guess we have to wait for another month to get the taste of Android 10 on this phone.
