It is now emerging that the Mi A2 Lite Android 10 update will not be released. Sure, we all know that only Google Pixel phones – and perhaps OnePlus too – guarantee at least three years of Android OS upgrades.

If you are looking to get at least two OS upgrades from a non-Google device vendor like Samsung, Huawei, LG, Sony, and others, your best bet is with their premium offerings.

But what if you cannot afford to part with the $800+ asking prices slammed on these premium devices yet you still want your $250 smartphone to run on the latest Android OS available? Enter Android One.

With Android One, Google promises budget spenders that their devices will still get at least two major OS upgrades. The program also offers a stock Android experience that is free from the One UIs, MIUIs, and EMUIs of this world.

According to the latest developments, though, it appears Xiaomi is about to go against what Android One program stands for by scrapping the Mi A2 Lite Android 10 update plans.

The Mi A2 Lite arrived powered by Android Oreo and upgraded to Android Pie. Being an Android One device, the update to Android 10 was never a question of if but when.

Now that the Mi A2 Android 10 update is rolling out widely, many thought attention would now switch to the Mi A2 Lite, but it seems the company has other ideas, at least going by this alleged chat between a Mi A2 Lite owner and Xiaomi support.

As you can see from the screengrab above, there is also clarification that the Mi A1 will sit out the update to Android 10, which is expected. It debuted with Nougat and currently sits on Pie, the second and last major OS upgrade.

Of course, we all know how unreliable support people can be with information regarding major Android OS updates. With that in mind, you might want to take the Mi A2 Lite Android 10 update development with a huge brick of salt in your eye.

The device recently received January 2020 security patches, which implies Xiaomi is at least keeping the promise of monthly security updates alive.
