The road to Android Pie for LG V30 owners has been quite bumpy. As of this writing, users of this device in various regions across the globe haven’t received the update to Pie at a time when Android 10 is already rolling out.

The V30 came preinstalled with Android Nougat and with the update to Pie, it marks the second and last final OS upgrade for this wonderful handset. Having been succeeded multiple times, falling further down the pecking order in terms of software updates was inevitable for the V30.

Stories about the LG V30 Pie update begun to ramp up when the kernel source code leaked and soon after, the first Pie beta build surfaced online.

In late July, the stable update arrived on the European variant (H930) of the V30 alongside July security patches.

As of this writing, this same European variant of the LG V30 is now receiving another Android Pie-based build with an updated Android security patch for the month of September 2019. That’s the latest version available. For a device that is now 2 years old. Wow, LG!

The update is arriving as version V30q and while it can be downloaded and installed manually with the help of this guide on XDA, you might as well sit back and wait for the OTA update to arrive in a few days’ time.

Running this build since last weekend and is fire.
I can confirm performance(like RAM management) and smoothness are improved, the overlaping notifications is fixed as well and even LG’s terrible gesture navigation implementation seems refined (I recommend using FluidNG to have back gestures as a compliment). Battery is fine tho.

While this is happening in Europe, the Canadian variant of the LG V30 (H933) can only make do with yet another Android Pie beta update. The latest firmware has been spotted online as version V30k and weighs over 2GB.

It’s not known when the Canadian firmware will leave the beta channel, but it seems the wait won’t be long. The story should also be the same with respect to T-Mobile users in the U.S. after the company published the Pie-based kernel source code last month.

There is still no word on when Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint users can expect the LG V30 Pie update to arrive, but we will keep an eye on the developments and update you on the same.

Sure, it might be painful to wait this long for the V30 Pie update, but it’s better that way than get it early and end up like folks in Australia, where the OS was released and later pulled due to bugs.
