T-Mobile users of the LG V30 and V30+ are not a happy lot at the moment. The Un-carrier hasn’t released the update to Android Pie for the duo yet those on AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and even U.S. Cellular already received their slice of Pie.

This has left many T-Mobile LG V30 owners furious and some even swearing to quit LG altogether for the lack of timely software updates. To recall, the LG V30 was unveiled running Android Nougat and with Pie, it will be the end of the road for this beauty.

The story is also true for the LG V20, the V30’s predecessor. Although a year apart, these two had the same OS preinstalled out of the box. But the V30 came with a newer version 7.1.2 compared to v7.0 on the 2016 model.

The pair received their updates to Android Oreo and as per Google’s software update policy, they also qualify for a second major OS upgrade. Now that the V30 is out of the way, at least for folks outside the T-Mobile realm, next in line is the LG V20 Android Pie update.

We already saw signs of LG V20 Android Pie update sometime last month. The device’s info page on the official Android Enterprise Solutions Directory was updated with Android Pie under the software section suggesting that the rollout was guaranteed.

Now, to further cement the fact that Android Pie is indeed coming to the LG V20, the company has published the Pie-based kernel source code on the official Open Source Code Distribution website.

As you can see from the screengrab below, the provided source code is based on version v20a of the Pie update and so far, it has been confirmed for the three Korean variants of the V20 with model numbers F800L, F800K, and F800S. These are carrier variants sold through the three major carriers in Korea.

The ready Pie-based kernel source code is enough to confirm that the wait for LG V20 Android Pie update shouldn’t be long. In a couple or so weeks, we should find out if the stable version is ready or not.

Unfortunately, the V20 Pie story for the Korean models may not be true for the global variants. But it’s too early to rule out anything right now. Hopefully, the global units will also receive the Pie update at some point.

Thanks for the tip, Hritik Sauw!
