With LG G8 ThinQ, the Korean OEM took a bold move to bring the hand gesture system onboard on a mainstream smartphone. The more advanced and responsive version of it can be found in the recently launched Google Pixel 4 lineup.
LG G8 ThinQ was launched in April 2019 and even though it packed quite a few features but, it failed to make an impression. Blame it on the irregular software updates and/or poor performance of the previous-gen devices, this one also slipped under the radar.
However, in a recent development, LG G8 ThinQ is reportedly receiving the October 2019 security update in North America. To be precise, major Canadian carriers have announced the update on their official pages.
To recall, the device packs in Snapdragon 855, 6 GB of RAM, 128 GB of internal storage, 3,500 mAh battery, 6.1-inch P-OLED panel and dual rear camera setup.
Coming back to the updates, the October update went live for Fido and Rogers carrier network users on October 30. The updates are purely incremental in nature and bump the security patch level to October 2019.
Note that though Rogers is the parent company of the Fido carrier network. Rogers communication also operates separate cellular service, Rogers Wireless.
Moreover, according to users on Reddit, the October update has also hit the LG G8 ThinQ on Bell, Freedom and Virgin Mobile carrier networks. On the other hand, the U.S. models are still stuck with the September update.
However, a few days back LG went under testing the Android 10 update for LG G8 ThinQ in Korea but there is still no information regarding its global rollout.
The updates will be made available in the coming month where users will get to experience Android 10 before its final release. LG will bring in some new UI changes that include menu tabs, pop-ups at the bottom of the screen, and a card type menu.
This is certainly a much-needed UI improvement as the existing UI of LG looks a bit cartoonish. Let us know in the comments below if you are excited about the Android 10 update on your LG device.
