Launched back in April of 2017, the LG G6 is nearing the end of its run. And as the end for the once flashy flagship, more and more issues continue to bug it. At launch, the G6 was greatly overshadowed by Samsung’s Galaxy S8, whose design seemed more polished.

This left many feeling like LG G6 was the lesser flagship. LG opted for a one-year-old Snapdragon 821 chipset while designing 2017’s LG G6. As a consequence, the phone might not receive Android 10 update at all!

But what LG G6 lacked in flashiness, it more than made up for it in its internals. It was among the first smartphones with a display that supported a High Dynamic Range. HDR is able to represent a much wider contrast and a larger group of colors, leading to a much better viewing experience.

This led to Netflix officially introducing support for HDR content on the LG G6 a few months after launch.

Since LG cheaped out on the SoC back in 2017, chances are that Android Pie is as far as the LG G6 will get officially supported. This is unfortunate, but even more saddening is that the long-anticipated Android Pie update is breaking HDR.

Many users have noticed that after the latest application update, Netflix has dropped the HDR video support on LG G6. Some users also noted that since the Pie update, Dolby Vision notification no longer shows up on Netflix HDR shows. The picture is very washed out and bright, even on minimum brightness.

But on Netflix’s support page, the LG G6 is still listed along with the LG G7, LG G7 One, LG Q9 One, LG X5, LG V30, LG V35, and LG V40. All these LG devices support HDR 10.
