New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

LG, a known brand in consumer electronics is now falling behind the likes of Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, etc in the smartphone market. It has been ages since we have seen any groundbreaking device from the brand.

LG G6 was launched in 2017 which is a successor to the poor performer, the LG G5. The only advantage or feature that was liked by tech reviewers about the LG G6 was the correct placement of the fingerprint sensor.

Talking about specs, while the rivals the Galaxy S8 and S8 plus were rocking the then-latest Snapdragon 835 chipset, LG went ahead with an older processor, the Snapdragon 821.

Moreover, the device was priced the same as the Galaxy S8 and its other flagship competitors. It is still unknown why such a reputable brand tried using an older chip on one of its flagship devices.

Now, in terms of security updates, LG does not hold a brilliant track record in that department either. Many of the LG devices are yet to receive the latest security patch let alone Android 10.

However, in a recent development, LG G6 has started getting the Android 9 Pie update in the U.K. and other regions. What is more interesting is that the already delayed one-year-old firmware update will be getting delayed in Canada.

Besides, it was reported by us that the Canadian variants of the LG G6 will get the Android 9 Pie soon. But, looking at the information, the wait might get a bit more extended.

Fido, which is a subsidiary of Rogers (one of the major network providers in Canada), in an upgrade schedule has put on October 23, 2019, as the tentative date for the Android 9 Pie firmware rollout.

Notably, the users of the LG G6 in the U.K. and Austria have reportedly received the Android 9 Pie update. However, according to the discussion on Reddit, the security patch is May 2019.

The update for the U.K. variant LG G6 carries version number V30a. The Austrian variant should be the same. The update package weighs around 2.28GB in size for the U.K. LG G6 and 3.25GB for the Austrian LG G6.

You can check out the official changelog and the screenshot of the U.K. LG G6 below:

What’s New:

However, one thing to note is that the Android 9 Pie update was already pushed for the LG G6 Verizon and European variants in the previous month.

Besides, this is one of the major reasons why smartphone users have lost their faith in LG devices as there is no timely push of security or firmware updates.

Let us hope that the brand revamps its strategy and comes up with something exciting and innovative in this already competitive smartphone market.

Update (October 24)

LG has finally started to push the long-anticipated Android Pie update for LG G6 in Canada. The AT&T branded variant is receiving the same as well. See here for further info.
