New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Just recently, the US carrier T-Mobile pushed Android Pie to the Korean company LG’s last year’s high end phone LG G7 ThinQ. While other carriers like Verizon, Metro PCS & US Cellular had already upgraded LG G7 variants to Pie, T-Mobile was due to receive the same. And that finally happened.
But what about LG G7’s predecessor LG G6 device that got into being back in 2017 and still awaits Android Pie’s advent?
For a quick refresher, LG G6 is fueled by a Snapdragon 821 processor. The smartphone originally shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat layered with the company’s customized skin LG 6.0 UI. And it was bumped to Android 8.1 Oreo in the second half of 2018.
While LG G6 device owners are gawking Android Pie, it appears the wait will be over soon. Reason being, a redditor recently managed to grab a leaked beta build of Android Pie. Going by the info shared by the user, the leaked beta build works smoothly on H870 i.e. the European model of LG G6.
The update weighs 2.6GB and carries the May security patch. As per the discussion going on the reddit thread, installing this update may or may not require you to root your device. It all depends on the method you use. Users can either flash using TWRP (that’ll require root) or LGUP (without root).
Just in case, you also wish to taste Android Pie before the stable update is officially released by the OEM, you can use the following download link that has been shared by the redditor.
- Device: LG G6
- Version: V29a
- Android: 9.0 (beta)
- Download: Link
Those of you who don’t wish to risk the device’s warranty or get into beta testing can simply wait for the official Pie update to be rolled out instead.
Not to miss, as per the OEM, Android Pie for LG G6 is scheduled for Q3 this year (which is already going on). And considering this leaked build is the official Android Pie beta (as has been stated by the redditor), it won’t be wrong saying the stable release should be close.
Here’s hoping LG released Android Pie (stable) for LG G6 soon. Rest assured, we’ll let you know as and when that happens. So keep a tab of this space.
NOTE:The redditor has shared more images of UI after installing the leaked build. Hover over the following image and click/tap on the arrow icon to see all pictures.
