Android 11 was made official last month and already, a few devices have officially been updated with many more set to follow suit in the next few weeks. Check out our Android 11 tracker for more.
Even as this happens, there are a few devices that were eligible for an update to Android 10 that haven’t been updated.
Some of these devices include the LG V40 ThinQ and its newer sibling, the LG G8s ThinQ, at least for Indian variants. These devices were launched back in October 2018 and July 2019 respectively.
They ran Android 8.1 and Android 9.0 out of the box respectively and are both in line for updates to Android 10.
Yesterday, we got word that after a long wait, the Android 10 (LG UX 9.0) update was live for LG G8s users in India. More on that here.
Well, today, it looks like users of the LG V40 ThinQ in India are in for a treat as Android 10 is finally rolling out to their devices.
It is worth noting that this firmware seems to have been out for a while now. Interestingly though, it’s only now that the wider rollout seems to have begun.
This build brings with it the newer September 2020 security patch level and LG’s Android 10-based UX 9.0 custom skin.
It remains unclear why this wider rollout of Android 10 to Indian devices has taken this long, but the recently-shared Android 10 roadmap for India outlines these rather late timelines.
This rollout pretty much wraps up LG’s Android 10 deployment and you can check out our dedicated LG UX 9.0 (Android 10) tracker for a glimpse of the rollout.
Many thanks to one Marshall Minzz for the tip. You’re awesome!
