LG is still rolling out Android 9 Pie updates to some of its devices with only a few weeks left before the year comes to a conclusion.
No, the year ending isn’t a big deal, but the fact that Android 10 is already available on a handful of devices speaks volumes about where LG is positioned in the smartphone industry.
In a Counterpoint Research published in August showing the Android version share for top 10 OEMs, LG ranked 8th only ahead of Alcatel and Tecno with 16% of its devices running Android Pie at the time.
This tells you how slow LG is when it comes to rolling out Android OS updates to eligible devices. It also explains why a device like the LG V20, a flagship at the time of its launch, only managed to pick up Android Pie a couple of weeks ago.
As of this writing, a couple more LG devices are receiving the same Android Pie update, this time the LG Aristo 3 and Aristo 3 Plus. We had reported about the imminent arrival of the update for the duo, which is sold in the U.S. through Metro by T-Mobile, a week ago.
First spotted by LG-centric publication MyLGPhones, the Aristo 3 is receiving the Pie update as software version X220MA20A while the Plus variant is getting the same update as version X220MB20A.
Besides the new Pie features, the updates also improve the security patch level of the Aristo 3 and its plus counterpart to October 2019. Not the latest version available, but still a welcome improvement given the standards of the two devices.
From the Settings menu, go to the ‘General’ tab and tap Update Center > System update > Check for update and stick to the on-screen instructions to download and install the latest software update on your Aristo 3 set. If the OTA isn’t available, you can get the Pie update via the LG Bridge.
