The Apple ecosystem is very tightly-knit. Apple products work incredibly well with each other. The integration between iPhones and Macs is one that hasn’t been properly replicated anywhere.

However, lately, things haven’t exactly been working out well especially between Mac computers running macOS Catalina 10.15 and iPhones.

A number of users have reported being unable to properly sync photos across their iOS devices. This issue is prevalent especially among users running macOS Catalina.

A quick scroll through the forums and you will see that this issue has been around for a while now. For weeks now, users have been experiencing this problem.

Some users have had to deal with this issue from as far back as February last year.

I have the same issue. It started last Feb long before Catalina. The only solution I found is to delete the iPod photo cache and let it rebuild every time I press sync. Every damn time.

Some lucky users have been able to get this to work but only partially. All these affected users point out that the issue started once they updated to macOS Catalina version 10.15.

@Apple Catalina was launched last October & yet syncing in finder still has issues with photo’s albums/events. Copying & pasting in photos not resolved! How long does it take to fix these things. When I sync using my Mac they should align not keep syncing hrs on end until it is!!

According to most of the reports, the majority of the affected users are unable to sync photos in anything but the main folders. Only albums that are not grouped within a folder are synced. This means that all sub-folders are ignored.

Knowing Apple, it is only a matter of time before the company fixes this issue. However, it is concerning that the company has not come out to acknowledge the issue despite the enormous public outcry on forums and social media.

We shall keep an eye on this story and update it when it is solved or when a workaround to this issue is available.
