Recently, we highlighted how Instagram has now started notifying users if someone screenshots their pics in private messages (DMs). Well, the social media service is again in news. This time, we are seeing a very large number of reports that say Instagram is deleting fan accounts.

There are many user reports saying this is just a wild rumor or FUD, but several others have personally confirmed their account recently got deleted.

Perhaps the biggest causality as of now is a PewDiePie fan account dubbed ‘classicpewds’. Here’s a recent post from Nat – the person behind the account – from her backup account ‘classic.pewds’:
The account had over 100,000 followers (including PewDiePie himself), and now if you try accessing it, you can’t.
A lot of people have come in support of this account, and are trying to get it to PewDiePie’s attention.

It’ll be interesting to see whether or not PewDiePie comes to rescue of this account. Meanwhile, people are sharing information about Instagram accounts that have been built with the purpose of reporting other accounts, and even managing to get many accounts deleted.

As you might already know, a picture of an egg recently became the most like photo on Instagram. It does look like that Instagram egg has inspired a Twitter egg, which now wants to become the most retweeted tweet on Twitter. Check out details here.

Nat’s backup account (classic.pewds) has also been deleted by Instagram. She is now urging followers to get the culprit deleted from Instagram. Meanwhile, social media star Zach Clayton has called out Instagram over fan accounts deletion. All this and more in our latest coverage here.

It looks like the Facebook-owned social media company is now going after spam, bot, or inactive accounts as a lot of users – including celebs like Ariana Grande and James Charles – have recently lost of a significant number of followers. Details in our recent coverage here.
