Legacy phones are often neglected in terms of software updates. Samsung did surprise everyone by delivering December security patch to 2017’s Galaxy Note 8 even before Google, but that was more of an exception.

For example, Huawei shifted Honor View 20 to quarterly update batch a few months ago.

Technically, the phone should be treated as current gen as Honor View 30 series is still limited to China. Thankfully Huawei revised their planning later on, and both Honor View 10 and View 20 are now listed under monthly security patch tier.

Talking about View 10, the phone is now eligible for Android 10 based EMUI 10 beta testing in India. However, the stable channel EMUI 9.1 distribution of this device has been stuck with September patch for a long time.

Meanwhile, several Kirin 970 powered phones picked up newer patches. Huawei is ending this painful saga, as they are now delivering a bunch of updates for Honor View 10 in different regions.

The Indian units are getting October patch in the form of software version 9.1.0.353. The changelog is pretty much generic for a ~250 MB incremental OTA.

We reported such anomalies with the update frequency in past, although we are unable to decipher Huawei’s decision behind such action.

The confusion continues, as other regions are getting a much larger OTA (~4 GB) with a different software version number (9.1.0.356) with the same October patch.

As you can see, this update also contains the fix for a camera focusing issue, which is not mentioned in the previous changelog.

Wait, there’s more! European users are reportedly getting a completely different build. Software version 9.1.0.358 in some countries bundles November patch. Like the Indian variants, the update size is pretty small.

We don’t know when Huawei will rollout this November patch to other regions, including India, but Honor View 10 owners should expect more surprises real soon. The beta version of EMUI 10 for this phone is going to be released within weeks, albeit the stable might come in 2020.
