In April, Huawei released an initial list of devices that would benefit from the newer EMUI 9.1 update. On this list, the Huawei P20 Lite wasn’t included, but the Nova 3e was. FYI, the two are one and the same device, only that they sell in different markets.

The presence of the Huawei Nova 3e on this list was enough to confirm that the EMUI 9.1 update will also be pushed to the P20 Lite. A couple of weeks later, Huawei also revealed that EMUI 9.0 based on Android Pie would be released for the P20 Lite in July 2019.

Considering that EMUI 9.1 would be available by then, it made little sense that Huawei P20 Lite would be upgraded to EMUI 9.0 and not the newer EMUI 9.1. While the initial July release date never materialized, Huawei has finally delivered on its promise of EMUI 9.1 for the P20 Lite.

It first started with the U.S. market, where the P20 Lite received the EMUI 9.1 update a few weeks ago as version 9.1.0.134 and weighing in a cool 3.33GB.

At the time and for some reason, the EMUI 9.1 update for the Indian variant was delayed once again. But a week or so later, Huawei confirmed (through the HiCare app) that EMUI 9.1 would begin rolling out to the P20 Lite on August 13.

True to this, some users of Huawei P20 Lite are now reporting that EMUI 9.1 based on Android Pie is now rolling out to the device. The update is arriving as version 9.1.0.206 and weighs in at 3.52GB, so be sure to connect to a stable Wi-Fi network.

Responding to a concerned P20 Lite user who hasn’t received the EMUI 9.1 update yet, Huawei India did confirm that the software is now available for download. But as usual, the rollout is staggered, meaning some units will get the notification ahead of others.

Thank you for showing your interest for Android Pie, we would like to inform you that we have already started rolling out Android Pie update with EMUI 9.1 version in batches.

As part of the EMUI 9.1 update, there are plenty of new features inspired by both Google and Huawei. Features like nature-inspired alarms and ringtones and illustrated functionality to ease the process of learning about your phone using graphical instructions and descriptions are in there.

Others like simplified settings for easy navigation, digital balance (Huawei’s version of Google’s digital wellbeing) to monitor your smartphone usage habits, faster launch times for apps, and features such as edit and speed up to Recorder and many others are included too.

Since several other Huawei devices that have been updated to EMUI 9.1 also received support for GPU Turbo 3.0 and EROFS, we also expect the same for the Huawei P20 Lite. Do let us know about it in your comments below.
