This story is being continuously updated….new updates are being added at the bottom…..
Like every other ‘Lite’ variant, 2018’s Huawei P20 Lite was released as a budget friendly trimmed down version of the original P20 series. Thanks to their overly convoluted naming scheme, you may spot a new iteration of P20 Lite this year, but that’s not the topic of this article.
The dual rear camera setup of regular P20 can be also be seen on the P20 Lite. However, the capabilities were intentionally toned down.
Compared to the Leica Optics infused 20+12 MP (P20) or 40+8+20 MP (P20 Pro) design, Huawei P20 Lite featured a typical 16+2 MP configuration.
The phone was released with Android Oreo based EMUI 8 onboard. Given the steady track record of Huawei, owners were kind of confirmed about the Pie update.
Unfortunately, there were some hiccups. Even after getting official confirmation from Huawei support, the phone (which is also sold as Huawei nova 3e in some countries) did not get a chance to be included under EMUI 9.x beta testing.
As a matter of fact, some regional variants of P20 Lite (codename: ANE) started to receive the EMUI update. People are trying to get the Pie update by rebranding, manually flashing the build via HiSuite and a number of other methods, but they went to vain.
Huawei India is now pushing the tentative time limit to the end of July. There is no clarification regarding this delay of update distribution.
Well, it seems the US/North American variant of P20 Lite (ANE-LX3) is getting the long anticipated Pie OTA at last. The build number of this update is EMUI 9.1.0.134 and it weighs about 3.33 GB.
The changelog is quite huge, as the update packs a number of new features under the hood. Some P20 Lite owners have faced slow down issues after installing the EMUI 9.1 build, although it should be gone after doing a factory reset.
The included security patch level is based on May 5, 2019 while the stock kernel version is 4.9.
